Vacation Recap: Cape Cod, Lighthouse Tours

The Nauset Light that you see below was built in 1877 and has been moved twice due to coastal erosion. Cape Cod loses 3 feet of shore each year due to erosion. It's painted red and white to reflect it's signal of alternating red and white lights every 5 seconds. Did you know that each light house has it's own distinct light signal?

The Three Sisters were the original lighthouses of Nauset built in 1837. The lights were 150 feet apart from each other, arranged in a straight line. However, over time erosion threatened them and having three lights became impractical so they were sold. The first two were sold for $3.50 and were put as the ends of a home. The one you see below was part of the home, with the top of the light house removed.




This one was the last one sold and was moved down the beach and kept in tact.
