Happy 4th of July!

On July 4th we decided to relax. It was so nice to have Steven home on my day off! However, our holiday did include a hike and picnic in Chewacla State Park and the Auburn fireworks show. The whole town came to the fireworks show. We ended up sitting on the church lawn with a lot of our families from church. One thing I like about Auburn is that we usually run into people we know wherever we go.

However, my favorite part of the weekend was the God and Country Day service at our church. We had never seen it before but it was wonderful! This year we hosted 147 Army soldiers doing their basic training at Fort Benning. It was very moving to see them all march into service. It was also moving to have all of the veterans come to the front too. After the service we hosted a lunch for the soldiers. They had no clue where they were going that morning and were so thankful for the meal. Talking with them and hearing their stories really put a face to so much of what we see on the news. It was also a strong reminder of how much we should pray for the men and women who serve our country and protecting our freedoms. It was amazing!

Here are some pictures from our day:
